Trophies Added at Croft Circuit

It was Rounds 7 & 8 of the Carrera Cup GB season this last weekend, with a trip up to Darlington to the Croft Circuit for the Rosland Gold racing guys and their 510bhp GT3cup cars.

A difficult track to overtake at, Croft usually produces one or two incidents that can either shine or mire a good weekend.  Last season George Gamble was pushed into the wall, and this season it was Andrew Rackstraw’s turn to be pushed off the track. Yes, it was an extremely frustrating weekend for Andrew, who had qualified P5 and was overtaking to P4 on lap 3 of Race One, only to find himself off the track, losing his splitter and bending a steering rod. Returning onto the race surface in P11, with his steering wheel no longer horizontal when driving straight, Andrew only managed to get to P10 and hold that for the rest of the race. Losing the downforce from the lost splitter obviously didn’t help. P10 was P6 in class.

Meanwhile, in Race One, reigning Pro Champion George Gamble faired much better.  Starting P4 he managed to get to P3 and stay there, grabbing a well-earned podium.  Excellent driving by both drivers.

The number 5 ball was pulled from the hat, so the top five places from Race One were reversed for Race two. George started P3, and quickly worked to P2 then hunted down that front spot by Lap 8 of the 17 and brought the car home with a win. P1 for George Gamble.

Andrew did extremely well too. After starting well down the grid due to the Race One incident, Andrew also had a good race, with a P9 overall finish, which was P5 in class. We can hope that losing what could have been a P4 and P2 finish without the Race One incident doesn’t affect the championship come the end of the season. But it’s only halfway stage at the moment, with another 4 meetings with 8 more races.

It’s off to Knockhill next, with race weekend being 16/17 August weekend.
