Thruxton Round Up

Race One saw Andrew Rackstraw lead from the start until the penultimate lap, when he finally lost the lead and finished in P2.  A great race, but losing the P1 a lap or so from the end was frustrating, especially as it is so difficult to overtake at Thruxton, which is the fastest circuit in Europe. Meanwhile, still with Race One - after a P4 in qualifying, George Gamble drove excellent in the other Rosland Gold car but could not get past the defending James Wallis for P3. In his extra efforts to do this he incurred a time penalty for track limits and this was demoted to P9 (P7 in class). Very frustrating after such a good drive. Overtaking is an issue at Thruxton, for sure.

Race Two, with its reverse grid start and the 6-ball being pulled from the hat, Andrew started in P5. It was a difficult race, with some contact between cars. George Gamble also had a good start and worked his way forwards to try to get passed Wallis and teammate Andrew Rackstraw, but it doesn’t work at first. Then he did manage to get passed them both at the chicane but was judged as having left the track to do so, so was demoted three places at the end of the race.  Not the best finish to a frustrating weekend. So, Race Two saw a P5 for Andrew Rackstraw and a P8 for George Gamble (after the penalty was applied).

Now there’s a fairly long break until the next meeting at Croft in early August.  Best we leave Thruxton behind and look forward to Croft.
