A Decent Weekend for the Rosland Gold Duo

Rounds 3 and 4 of the Porsche Carrera Cup took us to Snetterton.

Saturday’s Qualifying saw Andrew Rackstraw finish with P3 and George Gamble with P5. It was close, as usual, but the Rosland Gold pros were confident for a decent Race One early on Sunday.

Early start on Sunday and it was all hands on deck for the cars to be out by on grid ready for Round 3 of the Carrera Cup GB championship. Race One saw both drivers with a good start and running P3 and P4 by the end of lap one. That continued until Andrew Rackstraw took advantage of a wide corner by the P2 car and sneaked past on the inside loop of the circuit. P4 George Gamble followed, hoping to also get through, but saw his route now covered and couldn’t lift off the brakes. A resulting spin occurred and George came back into the race in P9.  He quickly worked his way to P7 and tried to get through to P6 by the end, but clever defending blocked his progress. He couldn’t manage it, finished P7, which was frustrating as the 6-ball for reverse grid was pulled out the bag meaning had he managed to get through to P6 he would started race 2 on pole position. Alas no, it was a P7 start in race 2 for defending pro champion George Gamble. As Andrew Rackstraw had finished P2 so he started P5 with the top 6 having reverse grid positions in the afternoon’s second race.

Race Two was another exciting start, with both drivers getting to P4 and P5 within a lap of the circuit.  The race continued with the top 5 staying in the same order right until the end. The front three were all pro-am drivers, so some excellent driving by them to hold on to those top three places. Andrew stayed at P4 and George finished at P5 - P1 and P2 in class respectively.

There was no damage to the cars to speak of, so it’s a fortnight’s wait until the season’s third meeting, with Round 5 & Round 6 taking place at Thruxton, which is the fastest average speed circuit in Europe. Roll on the next 12 days!
