Knockhill - Podiums & Penalties
Rounds 9 & 10 of the Porsche Carrera Cup took us to Scotland to Knockhill. It was a mixed weekend, with track limits and hairpin incidents adding to the excitement.
Qualifying Saturday set the tone for a very competitive weekend. Andrew Rackstraw secured front row with a P2 finish, and George Gamble was just behind with a P5 finish. The short but exciting Knockhill circuit was going to be entertaining, for sure. And so it proved.
Race One had Andrew Rackstraw on the front row in P2 with George Gamble in the 3rd row in P5. George had a good start, getting to P4 and doing his best to try and get past into P3. After initially being overtaken, George Gamble closed on James Wallis, forcing him to defend. In the closing stages of the Race, Wallis received a 5 second time penalty for track limits. Despite all the track limit calls for many of the drivers too, it was a very close race. Rackstraw reduced his gap to the leader in the final few laps, with less than half a second separating them. Despite this, he could not find a way through and came home P2. After corrected times due to the penalty, George Gamble finished P4.
After the podium, the winner drew the number six ball, reversing the top six grid positions for the weekend’s second race. This meant George Gamble was starting P3 and Andrew Rackstraw was starting P5.
Race Two saw some hair raising racing. Around halfway through the race we saw some contact, with Gamble out braking the var at the hairpin, and coming together with White, whilst Martin also made contact with Rackstraw, spinning Rackstraw out before both continued on their races. The order stayed as such until the flag, whereby George Gamble came home P2 and Andrew Rackstraw came home P10 (P7 in class). A disappointing result for Andrew in his fight for the championship.
Onwards we go to Donington Park (GP) for rounds 11 & 12 in a few weeks time where we look for a bit better luck and a little less contact!
