The Tudor Beasts series pays tribute to the ten stone beasts that line the Moat Bridge at Hampton Court Palace.
The sixth of The Royal Tudor Beasts Collection shows the Tudor Dragon - a tribute to the heraldic guardians of Hampton Court Palace. This iconic creature was a favourite supporter of the Tudor monarchs, symbolising their proud Welsh ancestry and the strength of their royal claim.
Clutching a shield bearing the Beaufort badge, the dragon reflects the deep symbolism employed by Henry VII, who used the motif extensively in royal imagery, including the decoration of his chapel in Westminster Abbey. Over time, this emblem became closely associated with the Palace of Westminster, echoing the dynasty’s lasting influence.
Struck in one ounce of 999.9 fine gold to Proof standard, this coin features a dramatic reverse design by David Lawrence, inspired by the original stone beast on the Moat Bridge at Hampton Court. The result is a powerful combination of historical significance, artistic detail, and numismatic excellence.
The coin weighs one ounce and is 24-carat (.9999 purity). It is worth noting that as this is classed as British currency, this coin, like many other British coins, is VAT-free and is exempt from Capital Gains Tax (CGT).
