The Tudor Beasts series pays tribute to the ten stone beasts that line the Moat Bridge at Hampton Court Palace.

The Lion of England gained its status as a royal beast in the early 12th century during the reign of Richard I (1189–99), when the system of heraldry was formally established. Henry VIII adopted the Lion of England as his dexter supporter, appearing on the viewer’s left-hand side. Today, this iconic heraldic symbol endures, often representing British identity more broadly than specifically English identity.

As one of the first beasts to adorn the parapets of the Moat Bridge at Hampton Court Palace, the crowned lion holds a shield displaying the impaled arms—a combination of two coats of arms—representing Henry VIII and Jane Seymour.

The obverse of the coin showcases the fifth definitive coinage portrait of Her Late Majesty The Queen, beautifully crafted by David Lawrence. Struck with 999.9 fine gold to meet bullion standards, this coin represents exceptional quality and value.
