An enduring symbol of Britain’s strength and heritage, the 2024 Silver Britannia Coin continues one of The Royal Mint’s most celebrated coin traditions. Struck in 999 fine silver, this iconic release combines centuries of symbolism with contemporary minting craftsmanship.
The reverse features Philip Nathan’s acclaimed depiction of Britannia, first created for The Royal Mint’s Britannia bullion range in 1987. Standing proudly beside the sea, Britannia holds her trident and shield, reflecting Britain’s historic maritime strength and her role as a symbol of protection and resilience. An olive branch held in her hand represents peace.
The design also incorporates four advanced visual security features. Surface animation creates the appearance of waves moving behind Britannia, while fine tincture lines add detail to the Union flag on her shield. Micro-text around the design reads ‘DECUS ET TUTAMEN’ – ‘An ornament and a safeguard’ – while a latent feature changes between a trident and a padlock as the coin is viewed from different angles.
The obverse bears the official coinage portrait of His Majesty King Charles III, created by British sculptor Martin Jennings.
Combining one of Britain’s most recognisable numismatic designs with modern security and precision, the 2024 Silver Britannia continues a series that has become a firm favourite among collectors around the world.
