Best remembered for his 14-year spell at Real Madrid, with whom he won every available club competition including 5 La Liga and 3 Champions League Titles. Fernando famously captained ‘Los Blancos’ to their famous 2002 victory in Europe’s premier club tournament. To this day, he remains the club’s highest scoring defender of all time.
Fernando also captained the Spanish National team, for whom he scored 29 goals, a huge achievement for a defender. Fernando is also the only person to have served as a player, sports director, and coach of the Spanish National team.
This 100mm diameter proof coin features an impressive portrait of Fernando Hierro, together with his signature. The coin is legal tender, issued under the supervision of the New Zealand Mint by the island of Niue, a popular choice for coin collectors around the world. On the obverse side of the coin is the Niue Coat of Arms.
The accompanying certificate of authenticity features Mr. Hierro’s signature, statement of metal fineness, weight, statement of proof quality - the highest the mint offers, and the signature of the independent Swiss assayer overseeing the production.
This unique coin is 999.9 fine gold, 1-kilo, 2023 issue. The coin is numbered 1/1 on its edge. It is offered with an acrylic display block and a handsome presentation box.
