Another two P1s for James Kellett in the G56 Ginetta
It was a 4-race weekend for the Ginettas at Silverstone, with the cancelled Thruxton race moved to Saturday afternoon here at Silverstone.
In the first race of the Weekend James was P1 in qualifying so started at the front of the grid. However, on the start he blew a driveshaft and didn't go anywhere. Stationary on the start grid he say with his fingers crossed he wasn't his by the rest of the field as they all roared past. That was the end of his race, before he even got going.
A manic few hours saw the drive shafts replaced by the engineers - they pulled the stops out there. A fantastic job by all - with the team principal even in amongst the repairs. With literally minutes to spare before the cars were called down the car was ready. On to race two...
In the second race, which was the Thruxton race, James started in P4 after pulling out the 4-ball on the reverse grid draw. After a good start James was in the lead by Brooklands, 2/3rds round the 1.6mile national circuit. There he stayed in P1 until the end. Two wins from two for James Kellett.
Sunday's first race saw James start at the back of the grid as he was a DNF in the weekend's first race on Saturday morning. But that made no difference to the expected result as he worked his way through the field and caught up with Tom Emson who was leading. Tom did an excellent job and held off James for 8 or 10 laps - but on the final lap a sharp move by James saw him squeeze past Tom Emson to take P1. An excellent drive. James has finished P1 on every race of the season 'til now (although was disqualified in one race for contact to another car at Knockhill, which also saw points taken away).
That statistic wasn't to continue, though, with the fourth and final race of the weekend seeing James start from P4 after drawing the 4-ball again and, after passing two cars behind Tom Emson, he continued chasing him until the end. This time Tom managed to hold him off until the end, managing to keep his cool right to the end despite James giving it his all. It was a P2 for James Kellett! But what a run so far this season, which is the final season of the Ginetta GT4 SuperCup with TOCA.
Onwards to the final 3 races of the season at Brands Hatch on the 8th and 9th October.
