A Double Podium for Rosland Gold Racing at Donington Park
Porsche Carrera Cup GB was at Donington Park this weekend. A weekend of two very different days - and it was a much better Sunday than Saturday, that’s for sure!
Saturday saw a decent qualifying session for Will Burns, who finished with a very acceptable P6; his best grid position of the season so far. But it was not such a good qualifying session for George Gamble, who didn’t even complete one lap due to a collision that split his radiator on lap one of the qualifying session. No time to fix that in the short session time, so the car was retired without a quali time. This meant George had to start from last place on the grid for Race One.
Race One saw some real good driving by both Rosland drivers. Will Burns finished P3, getting his first podium of the season. Really good driving by Will. Meanwhile, George Gamble was on a mission. Upset at the shenanigans in qualifying, he motored his way through the field - finishing in P9. Unbelievable driving and he also did the fastest lap of the race.
Race Two saw equally good driving by the Rosland Gold by Century Motorsport drivers, with George Gamble working his way up to a P2 finish, despite losing most of his splitter and a fender early doors. Another podium for George. Will Burns had a collision out of the first corner that meant he had to lift, which lost him a couple of places. But Will continued on with a more than decent display and finished in P5. Excellent result under the circumstances.
It’s such a close field this season, with a few drivers up in contention. George is still near the top of the points chart, but has been especially unlucky so far this season due to no faults of his own. Starting the season with a clutch failure on the last corner at Brands Hatch in the first meeting, when he was in for a points scoring, then he was pushed into the wall at Croft costing him both of those races with no points, then collision damage costing him in Race one at Knockhill then this weekend’s starting from the back at Donington to add to that. Will Burns was also unlucky back at the Brands Hatch meeting where he hit the wall out of Druids also due to no fault of his own. The car couldn’t be fixed in time for Race Two, so nothing there, just an early drive home. We are hoping for some better luck in the last two meetings, with both guys happy in the 992 GT3cup cars.
It’s Silverstone for the Porsches in 3 weekend’s time.
