The panda motifs changed every year except for 2001 and 2002. In the first year of issuance, 1982, it had no face value, and was subsequently issued through 2000 with a face value of 100 yuan. As of 2001, the face value was increased to 500 yuan. Since 2016, this popular gold coin has been minted with only 30 grams, because according to the law, the entire system of measurement had to be changed from the old Anglo-Saxon to the metric system. The silver coin followed in 1983, the platinum coin in 1987, and the palladium coin in 1992 with the same motifs and a precious metal content of 99.99% fine silver or 99.95% platinum and palladium.
