Knockhill Serves Up Frustration

Sometimes when lucks’ against you it really is. With changeable mixed conditions for Saturday morning’s qualifying session, Andy hit the track aggressively and soon positioned himself comfortably within the top 5. With rain increasing mixed with a sudden downpour and on a flying lap, with the field all on slick. Andy hit the rain head on at the back section of the circuit, unfortunately clipping the curb, spinning the car and sending him into the gravel trap. With the session red flagged and limited time restraints, Andy was unable to improve upon his 8th place qualifying position.

Heading into Race 1, luck would continue to be against us as unfortunately Andy registered a DNF {Did Not Finish}. Spencer continues “It was a mega frustrating qualifying session and posting a DNF in Race 1 didn’t help me. I’d been experience a brake balance issue, then within the race itself the gremlin re-appeared in the form of an overheating issue and at that point my race was done”. Straight after the race the fast moving Century Motorsport team carried out a full investigation into the heating issue combined with running the car on Ginetta’s Rolling Road in the aim of recreating the car operating at race speeds. With the coolant system drained, problem found and changes made we were onto Race 2 of the day. Starting at the back of the grid as a result of Race 1-DNF, Andy soon made up places on the opening lap before becoming unfortunately involved in the Turn 2/3 incident which forced him onto the grass to avoid be taken out. Dialling back into the race, Andy was head down and eye’s firmly fixed on the pack as he continually closed the gap lap after lap before crossing the finish line P12.

Sunday afternoon’s Race 3 was the scene of the final frustration act. Making his way round the formation lap Andy experienced a mechanical drive-shaft failure and Diff issue which resulted in stopping out on circuit before being collected by the recovery Marshall team. Leaving Knockhill all thoughts and focus went straight to Thruxton, the next Championship round on 28th / 29th August.
